Samsung Galaxy S5 requires more repair cost

After tear down Samsung Galaxy S5, we have a close-up view of back housing, and make a summary of the coming repair difficulties and problems. We surmised the repair cost will be higher and also keep looking forward to seeing the after-sale service of Samsung. 

Here following the reasons:

First, is the problem to repair Galaxy S5 earpiece. The earphone speaker for S5 is flushbonading and protected in nearly sealed place on the back housing which only leaves a corner for earpiece flex cable. So that when repair or replace that part, you need to consider replace the whole back housing for keeping your Galaxy S5 water resistant.

Then, is the problem to fix Galaxy S5 headphone jack. The same reason for water resistant, S5 headphone jack is sealed completely and glued on the back housing with lots of waterproof adhesive. It works through the metal connector on the bottom of the black headphone jack box. According to primary observation, the headphone jack for S5 can’t be removed easily.

Next, is the loudspeaker. For producing water resistant Galaxy S5, Samsung really does a lot. Like the two parts above, loud speaker also is sealed to prevent water and comes with strong water proof adhesive on the back of the loud speaker. Until now, we have not found an easy way to remove it. What only we can say is had better to replace the whole back housing.

Coming next is the problem to deal with Galaxy S5 side buttons including volume button and power button. Inheriting the simplistic design, Samsung integrated the buttons in the midframe and achieve their functions by the way. You can’t separate them from the midbody, and have to replace the whole back housing at the time you broken any one of the buttons.

Last, is the problem of Galaxy S5 camera lens and the other lens under it. Different from Galaxy S4, the camera lens for S5 comes on the back housing and with adhesive sticker, too. Maybe it can be replaced, but we can’t give the exactly answer. It’s not an easy task.

In a word, repairing Galaxy S5 becomes difficult and easy.

Why difficult? On one hand, because of the design of S5, except the battery and USB port cover, no matter what part need to be replaced, you should open the phone start from the LCD screen, which increases the difficulty. On the other hand, many parts are integrated together with strong waterproof adhesive, it becomes impossible to replace some parts alone. Repeat again, there is really much adhesive.

Why easy? Just for the reason that integrated parts, you will save much time to consider which part to remove and which part can leave, replace the whole back housing directly. And certainly it will increase cost.

This is Galaxy S5 micro USB port flap. The inspiration of this design maybe come from Sony Xperia but different from its difficult replacement. Hope the cover will not bring much trouble like Sony’s.

This area in red reline is for glued with LCD screen by waterproof adhesive tape which is disposable. That means every time you fix the phone, you need a fresh adhesive sticker.
